04.13.24 Silicon Valley: Sound The Alarm 625 Hillsdale Ave - San Jose CA

The Red Cross with its partners - San Jose Fire Department, Paramedics, and Explorers installed free fire and smoke detectors throughout the Mountain Springs community. Special guests Mayor Matt Mahan and Councilmember Bien Doan (District 7) joined the teams to install new fire alarms and combined units for fire and carbon monoxide detection. 37 homes pre-registered for the installation day. More homes were added to the plan as the day progressed.

San Jose Fire Chief, Robert Sapien Jr., told us fire alarms are the most important safety component when it comes to keeping us safe from fires in our homes. They alert us when we are at our most vulnerable and unaware of what's going on in our surroundings, often when we're sleeping. And the most important thing our residents can do in the event of fire in their home is to exit as quickly as they can. Smoke alarms are their early warning to do that.
