This view is immediately above the location of the previous photo - note the trees behind which are the buildings of Overend Green Farm.

The increasing depth of overburden meant that it had to be stripped in two benches and this eventually led to the use of larger dragline excavators.

Here a Ruston Bucyrus 24RB is loading a Muir-Hill Camill MkII dumptruck as an empty one arrives back having tipped its load.
