Crossover Games is released for Snow Leopard

Okay, this is not really new. Crossover Games 8.0 was actually released on October 2, but I needed a few days to test it.

I've been playing Team Fortress 2 on Windows 7 (through boot camp) since encountering the compatibility issues with Snow Leopard, so it's with much regret when I say that the new Crossover Games is not ready for prime time.

The problem is with the FPS. I'm used to getting at least 100 to 120 FPS and now it seems as though Crossover is maxed at 60. And that's when nothing is happening. When an actual battle is taking place, it's between 20 and 40 FPS, which is unplayable to me.

First of all, it's almost impossible to aim with this low rate. You have to set the mouse sensitivity way too high in order to compensate, which creates it's own little problems. You get a lot of lost frames with this solution. Even lowering the video setting, as you can see in the pic above, didn't help the situation much.

This is bad news for me. Rebooting into Windows 7 just to play one damn game is annoying enough, but for some odd reason, Windows 7 likes to blue screen every few days after I do the full install of Boot Camp 3.0. And predictably System Restore deletes all the boot camp drivers that allow me to do cool stuff like read from my Mac drives.

I haven't figured out what the problem is yet. I don't know whether it's because Boot Camp doesn't fully support Windows 7 yet or if there's something wrong with my RC version. Either way, it looks like I'll be booting a little more into the Windows world to get my Team Fortress fix. For now.
