Fruit of the forest
Spotted Gums (Corymbia maculata) are flowering prolifically on the NSW Far South Coast at present, attracting huge flocks of lorikeets that feed raucously morning and afternoon. Small branchlets are often broken or chewed off, and litter the forest floor. Here's one example showing the transition from enclosed buds to open flowers. The remaining empty capsules harden over time to form small gumnuts. Each capsule is about 5mm in diameter.
Taken with an iPad Air 2 and the Halide Pro app.
