Chevalier Couloir day trip

by overflow50

Consumer alpinism at its best!
A short day climbing the Chevalier Couloir 300m AD, from the Grand Montets top station.

Basically we caught the an early cabin to the top of the Montets, walked about 500m, roped up for the bergshrund, soloed 300m of 50-55º snow, roped up for a pitch out the top, then down climbed a 100m of steep snow and walked a couple of hundred metres back to the telepherique! Where we stopped for mulled wine and tartiflette (a local speciality - grilled cheese and white wine over potato and ham - pretty much a pre-packaged heart attack!).

It was a great way to get back into the hills!
