Elf - Microtia elva
The lovely little Elf butterfly – Microtia elva - with its very distinctive colour pattern, is only found from Venezuela up to Mexico with the very occasional stray into the most southern parts of the USA. With a wingspan of only 1 – 1.5 inches (2.5 – 4 cm) and feeding only on flower nectar it prefers fields, hedgerows, scrubland and anywhere flowers, either wild or cultivated, are found.
