Now we are four again
Class 166 diesel multiple unit No. 166215 descends the Filton Bank in Bristol with 1F17, the 12:30 Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour service on Tuesday 13th April 2021.
The four-tracking of the Filton Bank, first proposed in 2012, was completed in 2019. Of course in reality this project saw the reinstatement of the two tracks that were removed in the 1980s as an economy measure. A desire to increase capacity on this busy section of line combined with other operational benefits justified the scheme.
With any luck missed connections at Temple Meads due to being stuck behind a stopping train on the Filton Bank - something that has happened to me more than once - will be a rarity in the future.
