Portree, Skye

The harbour area of Portree, capital of the island of Skye looking into Loch Portree. The White building on the right beside the harbour is the Rosedale Hotel as seen in some of my other images.

We had come in to Portree partly to do the usual tourist things but mainly to get something for our dinner. We were staying near to Dunvegan and had tried to buy some decent locally caught prawns but no dice. I even went to the pier where they are landed and had a good chat with one of the guys there who told me everything that was caught was headed south and on to the continent. The vehicle he had just loaded would change driver/load and carry on to the restaurants of London and Paris in one journey whilst the driver would return to Skye for another load.

Meanwhile, with my mind set on langoustines - large prawns for dinner we ended up at the COOP in Portree and bought freshwater prawns from Ecuador and then back to Dunvegan for dinner.

They were responsibly sourced of course being the COOP! The evils of modern day living?
