Feb 2013 SITS Engineering Day
For the Teen Studio celebration of Engineering Week, we had students think about what structure in new ways. Teams worked on either a tower or span project, with certain challenges to spice up a competition.
For the tower, teams had to build the tallest tower possible with wood sticks. The catch? The tower would also be tested on how many 7.5 oz pop cans could be held within the structure. Teams were very clever at getting one more can than the previous team during the judging!
For the span project, teams were given very delicate piece of wood with which they had to create a bridge (without a deck) without using glue. Instead, teams were given unlimited amounts of string. Originally, the bridges would be tested with a small weight, but teams proved that their bridges could more than that! Two teams were able to support 8 cans of the 7.5 oz pop!
BIG THANKS to ESD, Exp, Cindy Zamora, and our mentors for coming out!
