Operation Sea Guardian
MEDITERRANEAN SEA (Dec. 3, 2017) Sailors from NATO's Operation Sea Guardian Focused Security Patrol flagship ITS Andrea Doria conduct a friendly visit onboard a fishing vessel in the central Mediterranean Sea. Following the invitation of the Master, the Italian boarding team met him and his crew onboard the Egyptian fishing boat. During the visit, information were exchanged, and technical support was provided by one specialized Italian crew member to the Egyptian crew, giving tools and guidance in order to solve a technical issue affecting the fishing gear system. The event is an example of the Maritime Situational Awareness task of the Units operating in the context of NATO Operation Sea Guardian, by which the Allied Command can have a better understanding of what is going on at sea, therefore identifying unusual events or potential threats to the security, building and improving at the same time confidence with the majority of the actors operating at sea.
