11 Abstract Polaroids #1

My 'French friend Jacques Barbier bought this set. Jacques is 88. His father survived Auschwitz. Jacques gets them. I wasn't sure anybody would get them.

I think the photographer who made these Polaroids is still alive. He lives nearby, but I don't know him, nor do I want to. I have no desire to know what his intention was in making the photographs. Was the first one a mistake, and then he liked it and decided to make some more? Were they all mistakes, but he recognized their worth and decided to keep them? They were all together in one envelope, so clearly he saw some merit in preserving them as a group.

The photographer is quite accomplished. I have hundreds of his photographs. Most of his photos are beautifully composed, sharply focused, normal and natural but just better than ordinary run of the mill photographs. Here, if you look closely, you can see some representational elements: flowers, windows, window sills.

These photos are part of a much larger collection of photos that were taken at various flower shows, where people who love flowers come together and show off the flowers they've grown, judge the blooms and the arrangements (well, the way individual plants are potted), give prizes, socialize, eat meals. I doubt anybody gets drunk. I doubt there's any room swapping. Not really my sort of thing, but to each his, or her, own.
