The Battle for East Coast GRC

11 Sept 2015 | Lego Challenge 254/365

The battle for East Coast GRC.

According to early predictions, the lightning seems to be winning the battle against the hammer. And that result should remain the same as the sample counts have all been on point so far.

(This will probably be my last elections-related Lego post for the series, so I'll add some final words here. And because most of you may not understand the political system in my country, I thought I would share some info too.

Singapore has been ruled by one party since independence 50 years ago. It was only in 2011 when the Opposition won the biggest number of parliamentary seats in our country's history - seven out of 83. That was considered a watershed elections by leaders and analysts.

Fast forward to this year, and it was hoped that the Opposition could gain a stronger foothold in Parliament to keep the government in check on its decision-making and policies that they intend to roll out. Support on social media had been greater than before, as early analysis had shown. The results are slowly rolling in, but at the current time of 12.30am Singapore time, the Opposition has already lost one out of the seven seats it previously held, and doesn't look like it would win the East Coast GRC, which had been a close fight in the previous elections. This is both worrying and disappointing for me, as the mandate only gives the ruling party the confidence and arrogance to implement policies which it feels are in its best interests, but not necessarily the country's.

I hope by the time you read this post, the six remaining Opposition seats would not have dropped further, as it would mean a total defeat for both the Opposition and the future of our country.

Politics out, let's bring in the fun again for the 365 project!

P.S Ruling party's symbol is a lightning bolt, main Opposition party's symbol is a hammer, hence the above satire.)
