MARCHtember '21: Liu's Inspiration
For SHIPs there’s SHIPtember. But what if you’re feeling like building a SHIP and it’s not quite September yet?
Well, that’s a conversation that Niek and Chris had quite a while ago – leading to a „Yeah, we could do it in March… – and call it 'MARCHtember'!“.
And while we quickly realized that there’s nothing in 'MARCHtember' that calls back to building SHIPs, the name stuck, simply because it was so silly.
And then – naturally – Chris came up with an equally silly ruleset:
1. To make it easier, your SHIP* only has to be 99 studs long to qualify! However, it can't be any shorter or longer. Exactly 99 studs!
2. Teal! It needs to have teal as a significant color in the build.
3. Build and post it in MARCH!
4. Have fun and make something silly (or outrageously cool)!
A good running joke, and that was it. But then Simon got wind of it and made custom 1x8 bricks for it and handed me some at Bricks in the Six – or was it Brickworld? As we all know he knows how to motivate inspire people.
Fast forward to last weekend where a few of us were meeting up at the office. We had planned to build some Gunpla kits but I wasn’t feeling like it and instead decided to see if one could build a SHIP* in the span of an afternoon. And so I did, in good company nonetheless, and put together the Liu’s Inspiration over the course of about five hours. And yes, that completely voids the definition of SHIP, but hey, I had fun.
If anyone feels like building SHIPs* in March, follow this link to the MARCHtember group!
*Despite not reaching SHIPtember’s 100 stud requirement, at 99 studs it is still a Stupidly Huge Investment in Parts.
