Linux as a desktop OS...
I have tinkered with Linux here and there for over ten years, however I never felt that it could replace my desktop operating systems (Windows and Mac). but this week I became really frustrated with the instability and flakiness of my Windows desktop PC. Something had to give. So, I decided to try a variation of the Ubuntu distribution of Linux, called "Ultimate Edition." And I must say, I think it may just work out. I am able to do all my normal browsing, email and multimedia stuff very well. It came with a great collection of applications, in fact I am composing and uploading this via a cool Flickr uploader. And Gimp looks like it may replace Photoshop adequately. Also, using the Windows emulator Wine, I am able to run my favorite Windows applications, until I find native Linux replacements. Only time will tell, but I think this is going to work!
