Material Tree 1a: Jeans Trees

Definition: Material:

1. The substance or substances out of which a thing is or can be made.

2. Something, such as an idea or information, that is to be refined and made or incorporated into a finished effort: material for a comedy.

3. materials Tools or apparatus for the performance of a given task: writing materials.

4. Yard goods or cloth.

 

Idea: So with that definition in mind I realised that this tree could be made out of just about anything as long as it’s made of matter, which is everything.

 

What is material? Is it clothing? Is it building material? Is it study material? Is it Photographic material? Is it you? Is it me? Is it my daughter?

Is it waste material? Is it material gains? (money and possessions)? I have tried to explore a few of these possibilities in this brief.

 

This is the first and most obvious interpretation of the category "Material"

being fabric.

 

 

Process: For this tree I used an old pair of worn jeans and cut wholes in them to make a cactus and a tree. I liked denim on denim look of the tree holes without the green card behind them as well.
