Contrasts

Astoria is a neighborhood of contrasts. This building, the oldest one in the photo must have originally been a private residence. It's not anymore, but at least it looks about the same as it did more than a century ago. I'm guessing about the age, but I can't be far off.

 

There's new construction going on throughout Western Astoria. Many people with private houses eventually move and sell their property to developers who will tear down the old and put up apartment buildings.
