Grévy's Mother and Daughter
Hi to all my flickr friends, I'm back from the holidays and made in Kenya, Tanzania & Zanzibar over 10,000 photos during our safari and scuba diving trips.
Not that just the number of photos expresses the quality of my holidays but it can tell that I was and still am deeply impressed by the beauty of the landscape, the wild animals and the people of east Africa.
Before the holidays I bought a new lens (Sigma 120-400mm F4.5-5.6 APO DG OS HSM) and took it to the Amersfoort Zoo for target practise. My first shot was of two Grévy's zebras and told everybody that I was hoping to "shoot" these zebras in the wild on the Serengeti plains.
Little did I know that the Grévy's zebra does not live on the Serengeti or the Masai Mara plains but has it's habitat in the much dryer, semi dessert, Heartland of the Samburu (northern Kenya) and eastern Ethiopia.
Further more I was not aware of the fact that the Grévy's zebra is an endangered species and it's population is estimated just 2,000 to 2,500 animals.
With this knowledge you can image that I felt privileged to make this mother and daughter Grévy's Zebra shot in the Samburu National Reserve - Kenya.
