In the shape of a baboon, this coffin (now empty) contained the mummified animal intended as a votive offering to the god Thoth. Revered for his wisdom, Thoth was believed to be the inventor of speech and calculation and was patron of scribes. The baboon was one of his sacred incarnations. made separately, the front and back of the coffin have four holes for pegs to join them.
