The Bay Bridge's Notorious S-Curve
ShutterKrazy and I recently visited a spot where you get a pretty good vantage of the old east span of the Bay Bridge, that is slowly being replaced by a new span.
My old tripod, after much abuse, was having troubles staying in place the night we went to shoot. I took around 30 photos and they all had blur issues when I looked at them back at home on my computer, which I blame on creep issues that stemmed from my leg locks no longer doing their job well.
Yesterday I bought a used Manfrotto from Camera West and decided last night on my way home from band practice to try my hand at getting the shot one more time. The new tripod worked very well. My wife doesn’t yet know of the purchase, but sometimes forgiveness is easier to ask for than permission.
This structure will one day be gone. I’m glad to have had the chance twice now to photograph it from this location. The S-Curve, though deadly, makes for a real nice leading line. I myself travel over it at over 55 - 65 mph, while the speed limit is 35. It's really not that scary...
