The Hemmerdingers, Morris (1848–1907) and his son Henry (1883–1947), established the Atlas Waste Manufacturing Co. at what would be t he Atlas Terminals in Glendale. The "waste" that they manufactured consisted of purchased fabric scraps that were sold for rags and stuffing material. They became the largest employer in Glendale. The site is now home to the Shops at Atlas Park.
