Spring Training 2013 - Puerto Rico @ Twins

Team Puerto Rico plays Minnesota Twins at Hammond Stadium (Fort Myers, Florida) in an exhibition game to promote the World Baseball Classic. Some of the other match-ups were Dominican Republic vs. NY Yankees, Mexico vs. Chicago White Sox, and USA vs. LA Dodgers.

Definitely not your typical melancholy spring training game. Very loud cheers in the stands from Team Puerto Rico fans and the band even came out to beat the rhythms of the island. There seemed to be a sentiment from the twins that a win will be hard earned. And, that it was. Outfielder Angel Pagan, who's day job is with San Francisco Giants, led the offense going 2-3 with an RBI.

I was also perplexed to see Ricky Bones (MLB player 1991-2001) as pitching coach for Puerto Rico. You see, I had previously seen him participating in January at the Joe DiMaggio Legends Game and in February as a coach for the NY Mets when they played University of Michigan. Now its March and he is here, busy schedule.

After this, Team Puerto Rico would head for San Juan to begin the 2013 World Baseball Classic for the first round in pool C at Hiram Bithorn Stadium.

Puerto Rico beats Minnesota Twins 8-7 on Wednesday March 06, 2013.
