Grimm Wraps it Up

How's that for a softbox? Last night was the final night of filming for the second season of the TV show Grimm, which is set and filmed in my city. I enjoy watching the crew at work when I stumble across them. I've watched many TV and movie productions over the years, and the Grimm folks take the cake for amazing lighting and all-out production values. Take this setup from last night... there you have a softbox that is dangling from a big-ass crane over a container yard. Those containers are 40 feet long, so I'd guess that softbox is at least 20 feet by 10 feet. The big light on the left is set atop a massive Genie Lift and two more are standing by on the right. We can only guess as to the shenanigans taking place below the giant softbox, but from the smoke, I'd venture to say it will look stunning. I bumped into the Director of Photography for the show at the coffee shop last week, (how Portland, right?) and he told me the season finale features zombies. The cast and crew spent that past two nights shooting at the container yard, so I assume the season will end with some sort of knock-down zombie battle amongst the stacks of shipping containers. Awesomesauce!
