Leipzig kommt!
Faded poster but not faded glory. Apparently put up in about 1993 to advertise the building of the new Trade Fair Centre, giving Leipzig one of the most modern in the world.
The poster proclaims the forward-looking slogan of the time (Leipzig's coming!) along with, in smaller print, an equally optimistic one, Leipzig: Stadt mit Zukunft (city with a future).
It's this kind of thing that makes Leipzig stand out from other eastern German cities, despite not being as big, memorable or as beautiful as some of them. From the (re-)start it has been well-led and has aimed high. Let's hope it stays that way, despite an unimpressive start by the new mayor.
(So glad I got this poster intact: only a week later, it's already been ripped off at one end.)
