Buzz Aldrin sand art tribute on the South Bank
July 2009 is the 40th Anniversary of the Moon landing (20th July 1969) when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first walked on the Moon – I watched on TV when I was a boy and was inspired by the Apollo program to become a scientist.
Saturday 4th July 2009 (American Independence Day) Buzz Aldrin was speaking at the Royal Festival Hall on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. I was unable to get tickets as it was a sell-out.
However, at the same time (because of the Moon’s gravity) the tide was going out - so I took my sons to the “beach” on the South Bank and we created a “Man on the Moon” tribute.
