One pound 1970's Diner Mug With An Interesting Background
ONE POUND DINER MUG....
These old diner mugs bring back great memories from an earlier way of life. I remember hanging out at our local diner on main street in Kings Park, Long Island, New York, back in the late 60's and having a late night or early morning cup of coffee from cups like this. I found this coffee mug on eBay and it came with a very interesting story.
As a young man, the eBay seller sold Collier Encyclopedias and Great Books of Literature door-to-door in the Western states up and down and west of the Rockies back in 1973. His cousin asked him to pick up an authentic coffee mug from a genuine greasy spoon diner along his route. Some of the coffee cups went to his cousin and some stayed in his cupboard. Recently, he decided to clean house and sell his diner cups. In his eBay listing he said, "You can be assured the mug you purchase was picked up in a greasy spoon somewhere in Utah, Montana, the Dakotas, Wyoming or Colorado."
The eBay seller did quite well selling the books and made enough money to get through to the spring semester of school without needing an outside job. He said, "I went to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and finally graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree.... I went on to perform with the San Francisco Opera Company for nearly 10 years. But I always remember that summer selling encyclopedias door to door in the West -- a great way to learn about other people, rural life in America, and about yourself as well. Please enjoy your mug, it has a colorful background!"
Color - off white, 3 1/2"H x 3 1/4" diameter, heavy guage porcelain, 1 pound 2 oz.
