carabobo street

what's left of the old saladillo neighborhood, almost all demolished at the end of the '60s by the executive or central government to modernize the downtown of the city of Maracaibo, this created high rejection between local people and still after 60 years creates a lot of controversy because of the lost of a lot of the historical and architectural memory of structures like this ones from the colonial era with high wooden windows and doors and colorful walls in exchange for nothing, as the promised "future" never came for the city: unfinished projects, a ghost town during non business hours and the most important thing, people that lost their homes and culture (el saladillo was the main centre of the gaita, the folk music of the region).
