After resigning from his position as Regent of Finland in 1919, Gustaf Mannerheim became a civilian. He stayed in this position until 1931 when he was named as the Chairman for the Finnish Committee for Defence. Between 1919 and 1931 he mostly spent his time doing humanitarian work in Finland and travelling around the world. Throughout this period he stayed in close contact with the voluntary defence militia, the White Guards. He also owned his own café in the city of Hanko 1927-1933.
Jätettyään valtionhoitajan pestinsä 1919, Gustaf Mannerheim toimi Suomessa siviilinä vuoteen 1931 asti, jolloin hänet nimettiin Puolustusneuvoston puheenjohtajaksi. Vuosina 1919-1931 Mannerheim pääsääntöisesti teki humanitääristä työtä Suomessa ja matkusti ulkomaille. Hän pysyi koko tuona aikana läheisissä väleissä suojeluskunnan kanssa. Hän omisti myös oman kahvilansa (Neljän Tuulen Tupa) Hangossa vuosina 1927-1933.
