71/365: watch me dazzle you with my knowledge of conic sections

-an ellipse is a set of points whose sum of distances to 2 given points is constant.

-contains: 2 foci*, a center, two vertices, a major and a minor axis.

-is good for orbits, toilet seats, car gears, elliptical bikes, and the oval office

-can be created out of wax paper. draw a circle and a point within the circle. proceed to fold the wax paper so that an edge of the circle passes through the point drawn; make sure to CREASE! do this as many times as you can. you have created an ellipse with the drawn point as one of the foci, and the center of the circle as the other foci.

 

yeah. math class. conic sections. you know youre jealous.
