Black-naped Monarch male

Black-naped Monarch feeds in flycatcher-like fashion, sallying out to catch insect prey. The males of this small species are a beautiful blue, with black highlights on the nape and in a little breastband. Females have the blue hue on the head, but are otherwise a more muted grey-brown. I enjoyed watching one of these birds taking quick dives from a perch above a water feature at a hide (blind) we used, in order to get wet, and then flying to another perch to preen. That was near Kaeng Krachan National Park, Phetchaburi province, Thailand.
