It's about three kilometers from the highway to the beach, most of it dirt road with long stretches of the road deserted. So I was so glad to hitch a ride on the Bangui Police Patrol car out on routine patrol in the area, just as I was walking only a short distance off the highway. It costs P200 round trip to hire a tricycle to get to the windmills; this is OK if I got one or two with me to share the fare. After mulling it over - it was a very hot humid afternoon - ignoring the touts and a few stares I decided to walk, and rewarded with a free ride and new friends!
