Simultaneous visualization of two variables using deformation and color
Author: Maria Beatriz Carmo
Date: March 2010
Description: Two variables can be represented simultaneously combining two visualization techniques for scalar data: carpet plot and color mapping. Carpet plot is a visualization technique that deforms a 2D surface in the direction of the surface normal. The deformation is proportional to the scalar values associated to the surface. Color mapping is a visualization technique that maps scalar data to color. The dataset corresponds to geo-referenced temperature and humidity samples gathered at regular time intervals.
Technique: Created with ParaView, an open-source application designed to visualize datasets
Source: Included in the book “As Imagens com que a Ciência se faz”
