America's Best
Doris and Arnold, prepared to go to the U.S.S. Sarita Navy Reunion, October, 2001. Photo taken in Cedar Lake, IN - I know this photo isn't "vintage," but my Dad loved going to his Navy Reunions with my Mom. They started the reunions in 1989. It was the first reunion. They were told what their mission would have been, they did not know when they were on the ship, so they did not know for over 40 years - but the bomb was dropped and the war ended before the ships got there! My Mom died the year after this photo was taken, and he went to two more reunions. Now, everyone is too old to attend. He was the youngest sailor on the ship, and he was 82 years old last November! My Dad was dying to go into the Navy. He is color blind, so he went to have the condition temporarily "fixed." He was also very young, so my grandfather had to sign his approval!
