Knute Rockne, head football coach at Notre Dame, joined the Studebaker sales department in 1927 as a part time promotional speaker. This picture was a Studebaker publicity shot, which shows the coach on the practice field with a 1927 Dictator. In the background is Cartier Field, home field for Notre Dame Football through 1929. In the 1920s, Studebaker Corporation contributed significant funds to the school's endowment, football ticket orders and other advancements of the University. On March 31, 1931, twelve days after he was rumored to be leaving coaching for a full time $10,000 per year sales position at Studebaker, Rockne was killed in a plane crash in Kansas.
