OK, I'm not really sure why shooting lightning is so much fun for me. Maybe it is that it is a challenge to get good shots, maybe because I get to be outside and maybe it is the danger. I have taken care of a few folks that have been hit by lightning in the emergency department and know the danger. I really like the raw power of the strike and enjoy seeing the results of my work. It used to be a pretty unique art form, but with Digital photography, it has become pretty easy to get a good picture.
This one is shot from my hill where I go to shoot the sunset and lightning. I get a pretty good shot of the city without a great deal of wires in the way. I'm somewhat protected because of the Catalina Mountains that block many storms from directly hitting where I am standing. Instead storms pass to the east and west and my little hill is not the highest spot in the area. I have had a few close calls where i enjoyed a little sizzle from a close strike. I guess the I would rather be a victim of Zeus than cancer.
This one is 4 separate shots layered in PS using the "screen" layer blending option. I love the look of the chaos in this one.
