Panama Canal (2014 Cruise)

Photos of the Panama Canal on January, 23, 2014 aboard the Norwegian Star as part of our 14-day cruise.

We spent most of the day sailing through the canal. We went through the Gatun Locks in the morning, a triple lock with each lock chamber raising the ship about 28 feet. We then sailed on Lake Gatun, a man-made lake, about 85 feet above sea level, which provides the power and water for the locks. In the afternoon, we went through the single Pedro Miguel Lock, and then the double Miraflores Locks. Once we exited the Miraflores Locks we were at sea level again on the Pacific side.
