Firehawk

Ruins of a scratch-build made from junk for a high school project.

Fins were ordinary balsa, but the motor mount was made from paper note cards, body tube from a Christmas wrapping paper tube, nose cone from pink foam, shock cord from rubber bands, parachute from a black trash bag and rubber bands, and launch lug from a Culver's straw. Also had a really sharp paint scheme and flew on D's, like the rest of the class' rockets.

Because I had experience, it flew the highest in the class. Unfortunately it also had the most spectacular crash, as the parachute never ejected and it came in ballistic on a baseball field. All that's left is about 6 inches of the body tube, the launch lug, and the fins. Caught it on video and will try to upload it soon.

The fins and launch lug will be rebuilt on a BT-60 based FIREHAWK II in the near future. The design was simply too cool to let it die like this.
