SCAM ALERT!
BEWARE OF THIS SCAM l
I just had a panic attack because for a brief moment I thought my computer was effed. A screen popped up (see attached) and a voice through the speaker said that my computer was infected and that they were Microsoft and would disable my computer if I did not call them.
I admit I am not always the brightest light in the house, but my BS meter was sounding alarm bells all over the place. The number (1-239-376-5429) so I calmly reached for my phone and searched the number and also typed in Microsoft for good measure. If is of course a scam. I'll put those screen shots up in replies.
Short version is they want you to call them and let them control your computer to "fix" the issue which is the exact opposite of what they do. If you ever get this, just remember that in the grand scheme of things, computer are not that important. Always back up any files on an external hard drive and other ways like the Cloud.
I still have time before I am sending money to some televangelist somewhere.
