Masked up

Mask-clad HST power car 43145 leads 1H13 1333 Edinburgh to Inverness into Dalwhinnie on 8th September 2020.

A place I've passed through many times previously but have never got off at, I made a point of calling in on the way back from a mountain trip in the Cairngorms.

It's another Highland location that's changed little over the years and still retains its semaphore Home signals in and around the station.

The signal is off in the Up direction for a class 170 unit just disappearing round the corner on the 1450 Inverness to Glasgow Queen Street.

There are only five trains a day in each direction that call at this remote stop.

At least the short-set HSTs are more photogenic that the units they have replaced!

EDIT 19/09/21 - Since this shot was taken, the crossover visible has been removed following the derailment earlier in 2021 of a NR test train. Also the foot crossing in rear of the HST has been closed to other than authorised users.
