Panther Beach Sunrise Panoramic - Davenport, California
Panther Beach North: Mission Panorama and Coastal Obsession Collide
Although it has been a very dry winter here along the central California coast, we did get hit by some heavy rain over the weekend. Friday afternoon, before the rain really hit hard, I posted a panorama from a point overlooking the stretch of coast known as Panther Beach and Hole In The Wall Beach, entitled "Coastal Obsession". As the worst of the rain subsided on Monday night, I went out and shot another panorama entitled "Coastal Obsession Part II: Mission Panorama".
This morning I got up at 5am, headed up the coast, hoping to scout out how my recent shooting grounds would work for sunrise. You see, Aaron Reed, a contact of mine, is road tripping to Cali, and we may hook up for a sunrise shoot. Wanting to look like I know what I'm doing, I figured I should do some research first...and why not head to where I know there are some nice spots.
Well, the newly running creek at Panther Beach had eroded the beach even more than just a couple days ago. Of course, I left my wading boots in truck, and the only way to proceed was to head up the trail, get the boots, and head back down. Once across the creek, I could finally determine that the mix of high tide and swell wasn't going to allow me through the hole in the wall. I considered shooting the hole with water rushing through, but instead, headed up to the bluff directly above it. My recent itch for panoramas got the best of me.
Not the best sunrise, but I enjoyed the setting of the waning crescent moon and then the rising sun.
