Northern Pacific Railway Light Engines at the Minnesota Draw Bridge in Duluth, Minnesota on August 4, 1961 at 6:30 PM
A pair of light engines led by NP Alco RS3 850 roll off the Minnesota Draw Bridge at Bridge Switch on their way back to Duluth from Superior. Look close and we can see the fireman seated inside enjoying the breeze as it blows through the open cab door, the only relief he’ll get from the August heat on this run. Bridge Switch was the control point on and off of the St. Louis River Bridge at this location. At one time the NP actually had three routes. Their double track mainline plus a third line down to their yard on the north side of Rice's Point. The Omaha and GN also has their own connections here as both of those roads used the these NP bridges to gain access to Duluth.
