Wheeling WV - Friends of Wheeling tour of Altenheim and one of the new houses that was built behind the original mansion. The mansion is located at 1387 National Road, Wheeling. This limestone house was built in the early 1920s by John Schenk. Edward Bates Franzheim was the architect. Altheheim itself was initially founded in 1891 by brewer Anton Reymann as a retirement home for German immigrant women who had served as domestic servants for Wheeling’s elite. It was originally located in the old Belleview Hotel, across National Road from Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church. George A. Dakovic, executive director of Altenheim Retirement Home hosted the tour.
