Swallow-tailed Kite preening
The most graceful flyer I have ever witnessed, the Swallow-tailed Kite gives one the impression that it has mastered all the intricacies of flight. Graceful in every way, the bird plucks its prey from the treetops and feeds while flying on its long migratory routes. These birds leave South Florida at the end of July or early August for their long journey south, some even reaching the southern tip of Brazil. They are back in Florida around the second week of February to build their nests and raise their young. To read more about this species, here is an article written by my son: www.evergladesphotosociety.org/articles/stkstory.html
