Pico at sunset

The volcano Pico on the eponymous island in the Azores, seen from a ferry at sunset. The small cone of Piquinho, marking the top, can be seen peeking through the clouds. At 2351 m Pico is the highest mountain in Portugal, as well as on the Atlantic ridge. It has erupted 3 times since the settlement of the island in the 15th Century, in 1562, 1718 and 1720.
