Main figure of a 14 m high monument, depicting King Joseph I of Portugal as an equestrian, with snakes at his horse's feet. The very first bronze cast sculpture in Portugal, a work by Joaquim Machado de Castro, erected in 1775, as part of the renovation efforts following the Lisboa Earthquake in the same year.
