Spain: Hundreds of people gather at Puerta del Sol to defend the trans and LGTBI law in Madrid
MADRID, SPAIN - NOVEMBER 13: Hundreds of people with flags of the LGTBIQ+ collective and banners with slogans against the modification of the trans law, are seen on Monday, November 13, 2023, while participating in a demonstration to repudiate the repeal of several articles proposed by the Popular Party (PP, for its acronym in Spanish), in the emblematic Puerta del Sol, in Madrid (Spain). More than thirty LGTBIQ+ associations and Madrid politicians have gathered where the headquarters of the Government of the Community of Madrid is located, to raise their voices against the reforms of the Identity and Expression of Gender and Social Equality and Non-Discrimination laws and Comprehensive Protection against LGTBIphobia and Discrimination based on Sexual Orientation and Identity in the Community presented last week in the Madrid Assembly by the PP, led by Isabel Diaz Ayuso. Specifically, they contemplate the repeal of the recognition of freely expressed gender identity, as well as the free development of their personality and being treated in accordance with their gender identity. Regarding the Comprehensive Protection Law against LGTBIphobia, the creation of the LGTBI Council of the Community of Madrid is repealed and the contribution of Madrid's institutions and public powers to the visibility of LGTBI people in the Spanish capital is eliminated. MADRID, ESPAÑA - NOVIEMBRE 13: Cientos de personas con banderas del colectivo LGTBIQ+ y pancartas con consignas contra la modificación de la ley trans, son vistas hoy, lunes 13 de noviembre de 2023, mientras participan en una manifestación para repudiar la derogación de varios artículos que propone el Partido Popular (PP), en la emblemática Puerta del Sol, en Madrid (España). Más de una treintena de asociaciones LGTBIQ+ y políticos madrileños se han congregado donde se sitúa la sede del Gobierno de la Comunidad de Madrid, para alzar su voz contra las reformas de las leyes de Identidad y Expresión de Género e Igualdad Social y no Discriminación y de Protección Integral contra la LGTBIfobia y la Discriminación por Razón de Orientación e Identidad Sexual en la Comunidad presentadas la semana pasada en la Asamblea de Madrid por el PP, que lidera Isabel Díaz Ayuso. En concreto, contemplan la derogación del reconocimiento de identidad de género libremente manifestada, al igual que al libre desarrollo de su personalidad y a ser tratado de conformidad a su identidad de género. Sobre la Ley de Protección Integral contra la LGTBIfobia, se deroga la creación del Consejo LGTBI de la Comunidad de Madrid y se elimina la contribución de las instituciones y los poderes públicos madrileños a la visibilidad de las personas LGTBI en la capital española.
