Jesus is betrayed, captured and flogged. On the left, Judas throwing the money he had received for betraying Jesus onto the temple floor in repentance. The panel probably once belonged to a large altarpiece containing numerous representations from the Passion of Jesus. Unknown south German or Bavarian artist, ca. 1506. The right-hand section is copied from a print by Martin Schongauer from 1470-80.
Kasteel Huis Bergh is one of the largest castles in the Netherlands and is located in the town of 's-Heerenberg in the province of Gelderland. The castle dates back to the 13th century and was the ancestral seat of the Counts of Bergh, who ruled a large area in the eastern part of the Netherlands. The castle is surrounded by a moat and has a rich art collection including early Italian paintings, medieval manuscripts and coins.
