A Colorful Island

Our last stop before the Panama Canal was Taboga island (Isla Taboga)

This quaint and colorful (think funky) destination is a popular weekend destination for folks from Panama City, Panama which is only about 8 miles away and connected by a ferry.

The history of the island dates back to the days of pirates and was a popular rest stop for Captain Morgan and his crew. It’s also known for having the second oldest church in Latin America and having painter Paul Gauguin stay there while he recuperated from Malaria contracted during the early period of canal zone construction. It is also noted for its colorful flowers throughout the town and has the nickname "island of flowers"
