Harris County Public Library
Recipient: Debbie Peck, Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek
Teamwork
Debbie Peck exemplifies teamwork in many ways. She supports all of our children and young adult programming. She works with multiple staff members to develop story times and the Summer Reading Programs. She is the behind the scenes person that makes everything run smoothly. She is impeccable in her event planning and is a problem solver. Debbie, no matter what her stress level, exemplifies ingenuity, dedication, teamwork and consideration
for all people.
Innovation
Debbie Peck s bulletin boards are above reproach. Her creativity each and every month upgrades the overall appearance of the library. Her work is clean, professional and lively. She maintains seven bulletin boards in all, each with different themes and content. Debbie s innovation extends beyond her artistic talent. Her program ideas are also innovative. She weighs her knowledge of past successful events and applies that historical knowledge to new programming ideas. For African American History Month, Debbie integrated quilting, folk stories and the underground railroad into one program; maximizing the children s exposure and experience. She thought through every step in the program and anticipated the potential problems. She is proactive in establishing solutions before problems arise.
Job Performance
Debbie Peck is self-motivated, dedicated, thoughtful and responsible. She works in an efficient way each time. She hosts three back-to-back Toddler Times weekly. Debbie is also careful with county resources. She serves in all Circulation capacities as well as plans programs. She co-leads the Teen Advisory Board and was responsible for keeping the group intact in times of limited staff. She assists with training the volunteer teens in the summer and helps coordinate the volunteer tasks whenever needed. Superwoman, watch
out!
Leadership
Debbie runs one of our most popular children s programs. She leads by example. She is upbeat, positive and a problem solver. Even when Debbie has a million hats to wear, she wears them each with style and dignity. She is kind to the core and treats others with respect. She is an intergenerational role model and the children look up to her. The Teen Advisory Board brags about her and looks forward to the meetings that she co-chairs. Debbie s sense of humor and her caring disposition boost the spirits of the entire
staff.
Customer Service
Debbie is able to relate to all of our patrons. She is outstanding with very young patrons during infant and toddler time. She is a beacon of positivism for the teens and is patient and considerate when she works in circulation with adults. She never takes shortcuts and often fulfills requests above and beyond expectation. One example of her service is when Debbie answered the telephone and received a request for a shelf check/manual hold. There must have been at least 15 books from all over the library. No one on the staff knew she had gotten the call in the middle of doing her million other tasks.
She quietly retrieved all the books, placed them all on manual hold, bagged and labeled each book and brought them to the information desk for patron pick up. She goes above and beyond with her service. She is patient and instinctively able to adjust how she explains library policies and
instruction to suit the patron s individual capabilities.
