Celebrating Earth Day
WHEREAS, In 1970, more than 20 million Americans celebrated the first Earth Day to encourage appreciation of our planet’s natural resources; and
WHEREAS, On Earth Day, people around the world come together to raise awareness and increase appreciation of the Earth’s natural environment; and
WHEREAS, Reducing, reusing, recycling, and purchasing recycled products help contribute to a comprehensive waste and resource reduction strategy that benefits our natural world and the global economy; and
WHEREAS, Each Gwinnett resident plays a critical role in helping to ensure Gwinnett maintains an environmentally sustainable community today and for future generations; and
WHEREAS, Gwinnett Solid Waste Management and Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful will host the County’s annual Earth Day recycling event on April 22 from 9:00am until noon at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville; and
WHEREAS, By recycling paint, tires, electronics, clothing, and paper, the public can dispose of unwanted household materials in an environmentally conscious way.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nicole L. Hendrickson, on behalf of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, do hereby designate April 22, 2023, as Earth Day in Gwinnett County. I encourage residents to participate in our local Earth Day recycling event and to be good stewards of our natural resources year-round.
