BlackBerry Way
Following a successful trial Greater Manchester Police is issuing over 900 BlackbBerrys to Neighbourhood Policing officers across the Force.
Not only do the devices allow officers access to their calendars and email while on patrol, they can also use many of the Force’s IT systems and the Police National Computer (PNC) which allows for checks on vehicles and people. If the subject’s image appears on the database it is automatically sent to the BlackBerry.
The devices can also record still images, video and audio and has a satellite navigation facility.
The BlackBerrys are intended to allow officers to work more effectively while on patrol and need to return to their base less frequently.
